There was a lack of targeting during economic measures in Serbia

Zeljko Tomic and Jelena Rancic from NALED agreed in Dan live on N1 television that there was a lack of targeting in the measures to help the economy. Tomic stated that it is necessary for those who are in the biggest crisis, who need it the most, to get the money.
As Rancic said, the crisis caused by the pandemic spilled over to all economies in the world.
“The scale of the crisis is practically estimated at the level of those from 2008, maybe it will be even bigger. The EU has enabled all member states to break the rules on the fiscal deficit, in order to help the economy and ensure stability,” she said.
Rancic adds that success does not depend only on the size of the package, but also on the duration of the crisis. Recovery, she says, is not expected before mid-2021.
“This was expected in the first package, due to urgency, but it may have been needed in the second package of measures, there was more time for analysis and adoption of specific sectoral measures,” she says.
Tomic points out that the advantage is that they reacted quickly.
“We didn’t have to wait for the analysis. And the disadvantage is that such assistance is given linearly to those who do not need it, and that amount could drastically improve the sectors that are in crisis,” he says, adding that the funds available to the state “are not infinitely large.”
He is of the opinion that companies that did not need funds should not have applied. Rancic points out that the second package of measures is much less generous than the first.
“And that is expected, given that the first package is quite large and that the state will have to enter a much larger deficit to cover all costs,” she says.
Speaking about helping city hotels, Tomic says that is not surprising.
“It could certainly have been expected given the crisis the sector is in. Where is the luck that this selectivity and targeting was done in the beginning, I think that the effects of this help would be much greater,” he says and points out that the funds are limited.
“We will all have to return those funds and we should all together take care of how we allocate them,” he concludes, Nova reports.
