Tourist numbers in Serbia up by 10 percent in first quarter

A total of 424,632 tourists visited Serbia from January to March this year, or 10 percent more compared to the same period in 2014, according to the data of the national statistics office. The number of domestic tourists rose by nine percent to 245,398, which accounted for 58 percent of the total number, while the remaining 42 percent were visitors from abroad, totaling 179,234 or 12 percent more than last year. The first quarter of 2015 saw a total of 1,272,148 overnight stays – 846,233 from domestic and 425,915 from foreign tourists. Local guests stayed mostly in mountain resorts (52 percent), and spa towns (24 percent of overnight stays). In the period from January to March, most tourists from Serbia visited Kopaonik, 20 percent more than last year, as well as Zlatibor, Belgrade, and Vrnjacka Banja. The majority of foreign guests visited Belgrade – 16 percent more than in January-March last year – Kopaonik, Novi Sad, and Zlatibor. Tourists from Montenegro had the highest number of overnight stays, followed by visitors from Bosnia-Herzegovina, Bulgaria, and Russia.
