In August this year, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) Srbija was Serbia’s top exporter, while growth in total exports and imports was 12 and 8.3 percent respectively, economic experts said during the presentation of the latest edition of the Macroeconomic Analyses and Trends (MAT) monthly in Belgrade Tuesday.

Economist Stojan Stamenkovic said that production at the FCA had been “oscillating” after significant growth in 2013, and would further depend on investment in development.

Stamenkovic added that production growth at Fiat’s factory in Kragujevac would also depend depend on infrastructure development, especially on the construction of a road between Kragujevac and Batocina, which should connect the FCA with road Corridor 10.

After opening its production plant in Serbia in 2012, the FCA climbed to the top of the list of Serbia’s exporters with EUR 1.53 billion worth of exports in 2013, while in 2014, the company’s exports amounted to EUR 1.36 billion.

Stamenkovic said that demand for vehicles made by the Fiat Chrysler Automobiles Group could increase following the recent scandal with Volkswagen cheating in diesel emissions tests in the United States.

Agriculture had the biggest share in Serbia’s exports in the first eight months of 2015, Stamenkovic said, adding that agriculture exports in August amounted to about EUR 150 million.
