The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development plans to finance projects of up to 600 million euros in Serbia in 2020, with the bulk of it being earmarked for environmental protection.
EBRD Western Balkans Director ZsuzsannaHargitai told eKapija that most of the investments will be around 70 percent going to the private sector, either through local financial institutions or directly, and about 30 percent will be invested in the public sector.
The EBRD, according to her, will invest the most in environmental protection, whether through renewable energy, the circular economy, green cities, as well as the smart metering program at EPS. Hargitai also announced work on implementing the capital market strategy.
“We will work with the financial institutions, the Government of Serbia and the Ministry of Finance to implement the capital market strategy, as well as to prepare state-owned companies for entry into the stock market. We would love to see a more active capital market in Serbia”, Hargitai told eKapija.
