A plan for the implementation of a project for the research and processing of lithium ore and boron has been adopted.
The Serbian government has adopted a plan to implement a project for the research and processing of lithium ore and ore, which provides for the British-Australian mining conglomerate Rio Tinto to invest up to one and a half million dollars in the opening of a mine in the Jadro Valley near Loznica.
The government also gave the green light to the spatial plan. Under that plan, mining activity will be spread over 855 hectares, the industrial activity zone will occupy 646 hectares, and an area of 358 hectares will be used for industrial waste storage, driveways and logistics.
Exploitation is expected to begin in late 2024 or early 2025.
Rio Tinto found lithium and wrinkle in 2004.
Jadar is estimated to contain 138 million tonnes of raw material or nearly 10 percent of the world’s lithium reserves, which is the primary substance for the production of batteries for electric vehicles, Srbija Danas reports.
