The Minister of Construction, Traffic and Infrastructure, Zorana Mihajlovic, stated today for TV Prva that 250 kilometers of new highways are currently being built throughout Serbia.
Mihajlovic stated that the Moravian Corridor, the highway and the fast road Ruma-Sabac-Loznica, the section of the highway from Cacak to Pozega, the highway to Bosnia and Herzegovina on the stretch Sremska Raca – Kuzmin are currently under construction, and she reminded that yesterday a commercial contract for the construction of the Frushkogorski corridor was also signed.
According to her, Serbia has built 350 kilometers of new highways in the past few years, but it is important to invest in railways as well.
“Now we have 924 kilometers of highway, and by the end of next year, the sections from Krusevac to Pojat and from Cacak to Pozega will be ready. We are also building a high-speed railway from Belgrade to Budapest, but it is equally important that we have a high-speed railway to Nis, for which I expect to sign a contract next year. We are implementing infrastructure projects worth 16 billion euros,” said Mihajlovic, the Ministry announced.
She also assessed that it is important for Serbia to have as many different investments and capital as possible, and that through cooperation with the American International Finance Corporation (DFC), projects for the construction of a “peace highway” to Pristina, as well as the Nis-Merdare railway will be realized.
“For the first section of the highway, worth 220 million euros, the money was provided through the European Investment Bank and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development. At the end of October or the beginning of November, an international public invitation will be announced, and I expect that it will get a contractor by the end of the year and that works on this 33-kilometer-long section will begin in March 2021,” announced Mihajlovic.
She also said that Serbia would continue investing “in infrastructure and a better life for the entire region” thanks to the Washington agreement, which was agreed upon by Presidents Aleksandar Vucic and Donald Trump, Danas reports.
