The Jadar project can bring prosperity to Serbia, but only if it is realized with the highest level of environmental protection and good communication with the citizens, Mihajlovic emphasized. She added that she believes that the production of batteries for electric cars should be located in Serbia.
Speaking on TV Happy, Mihajlovic said that in addition to the Australian company Rio Tinto, several ministries, representatives of the City of Loznica and the Macvan District, will be involved in this project.
“I believe that if we all sit down together and agree, we can ensure a better future for Serbia by using the mineral jadarite,” she said.
Speaking about the citizens’ concern for the possible effects of this project on the environment, Mihajlovic said that she understands the citizens, because she knows what they went through because of the Zajač+c mine and the environmental problems it caused.
“Citizens must be informed about everything and we will create a small team that will deal with it, because it is important to explain every step, from the technologies that will be used, to how this whole space will look like,” said Mihajlovic.
“Rio Tinto is a serious company, a lot of research is being done, and they have even built a pilot plant in Australia to test the technologies they would use. Jadarite is a new mineral that can bring prosperity, but it is important to do everything in an environmentally sustainable way. If we know how much the market for batteries for electric cars is growing, that it is the future, that we have raw materials, why not do it, but so that everything is in line with environmental requirements,” said Mihajlovic, B92 reports.
