The Minister of Mining and Energy, Zorana Mihajlovic, said that during 2021, the domestic mining and energy sector will turn to projects for environmental protection, as well as that an environment will be created for private capital to enter the field of energy and mining.
She stated in the statement that the mining and energy sector should become the impetus for the development of the Serbian economy during the current year, as well as that energy efficiency will be improved through the formation of a special fund for that purpose.
“We will turn more to the construction of hydroelectric power plants, and we are not talking about small hydroelectric power plants, but, above all, medium-sized hydroelectric power plants that should help us use clean energy sources much more in the coming decades,” said Mihajlovic.
She added that she expects that Serbia will build hydroelectric power plants on the upper Drina, and that the Electric Power Industry of Serbia will become known outside the Serbian border, which will mean higher revenues and more profitable business.”
“When we talk about gas, the Balkan Stream is of great importance to us. That automatically means that we are no longer dependent on supplies from only one direction, that is, on the gas that we need to receive through Ukraine,” the minister said.
Mihajlovic added that the diversification of supply routes has been done, but that there is still no diversification of suppliers, which would achieve a higher level of gas energy security.
“Serbia will build a gas interconnection between Serbia and Bulgaria, and work will be done on the preparation of documentation for gas interconnections with Romania, or with some other countries. This gives the possibility for Serbia to be the center of the region in the field of energy, but also to be a transit line when we talk about the entire region,” said Mihajlovic, Danas reports.
