More expensive steel raised the prices of agricultural machines in Serbia

In mid-January, there was a significant increase in prices in almost all stores of agricultural machinery and attachments, writes Agropress. The reason for that, as the producers claim, is the jump in the price of raw materials by as much as 40 percent.
The “hot potatoes” were transferred to the ironworks, which justify their price increases with an unprecedented increase in steel prices on world stock exchanges. This is a consequence of the movement of prices on the world market, due to the pandemic, explains Master Radovan Komad from Majevica, a service from Backa Palanka, and Agropress reports.
“It is necessary to follow the developments in the metal industry as well, so you will see that the basic supplier to all metal industries (Zelezara Smederevo) has been working with reduced capacity for six months now,” says Komad.
However, agroeconomist Milan Prostan claims for this portal that there is always a reason to increase the price.
“Now it is the price of steel, so the price of electricity will be increased and who knows what else. Unfortunately, we are directed to imports and the lobby that dictates what and when to import,” says Prostan.
He adds that he admires “the peasants how they manage to work and repair tractors that are 30 and 40 years old.”
The authors of the text explain that due to the current price increases and subsidies for farmers, there will be only a drop in the ocean of their huge costs.
They remind that the state subsidizes the purchase of agricultural machinery and attached machines up to 50 percent of the price without VAT, ie up to 65 percent for rural areas. The maximum amount in one calendar year is 12,500 euros.
According to the valid prices in the ads, the plow costs 1,700 euros, the heavy harrow 2,800, the plate 2,800, while the prices of the seeders depend on the type, size and purpose from 4,000 to 8,000 euros, Agropress reports.
