There are great opportunities for more intensive economic and investment cooperation between Serbia and the United States, especially in the sectors of IT and digitalization, energy and renewable energy, infrastructure, pharmacy and health, as well as in the field of development and research, said Marko Cadez fron Chambers of Commerce of Serbia and David De Falco, US Deputy Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Europe and Eurasia. The meeting, organized as part of De Falco’s virtual visit to Serbia, was attended by Marko Djuric, Serbia’s ambassador to the United States.

Marko Cadez, President of the Serbian Chamber of Commerce (SCC), pointed out the importance of restoring the preferential status (GSP) in trade with the USA, as well as reaching an agreement on avoiding double taxation, which will have a positive impact on investments. He reminded that the plan is to open the Serbian House in Silicon Valley, which will be a place for meetings and exchange of knowledge and experiences of companies from Serbia with American partners.

The President of SCC especially pointed out the great possibilities of cooperation with American companies and institutes in the field of energy diversification and the greatest possible use of renewable energy sources – wind, water, biomass.

David De Falco, US Deputy Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Europe and Eurasia, said that strengthening economic relations with Serbia is important for the US administration and that it is necessary to map specific sectors of cooperation and strengthening business ties. Animating the American business community and promoting the economic and investment potential of Serbia and the Western Balkans region in the United States are important steps in that direction, De Falco emphasized.

Marko Djuric, the Ambassador of Serbia to the USA, said that the goal was to open the door to as many American companies in Serbia as possible through joint activities with SCC. He announced the organization of a series of promotional events with the goal of attracting American investments and connecting companies.

The ambassador pointed out that the foreign trade exchange between Serbia and the United States, which was worth 812 million dollars last year, is on the rise, but that it could be even higher. In the total exchange between Serbia and the United States, the exchange of services became increasingly important, which in 2020, during the pandemic, thanks to the growth of Serbian exports, reached 977 million dollars, Vesti Online reports.
