– Ikea’s plan to invest in the opening of five department stores in Serbia has remained the same. As we already announced during the visit of Ikea Group CEO Michael Olsson and confirmed in the talks with Serbian President Boris Tadic and Belgrade Mayor Dragan Djilas, the plan is to open another two department stores in Belgrade, one in Novi Sad, one in Nis and one in central Serbia. Our cooperation with city and government authorities is excellent, and they’ve assured us that all administrative procedures will be completed effectively so we could start the construction of the first department store in Belgrade this autumn – Milena Vujicic, PR manager of Ikea Serbia, says to eKapija.

Ms. Vujicic points out that the shopping center project is the only one to be postponed until 2015.

Our interlocutor says that the first department store in Zagreb is also expected to open in late 2013, after which another two department stores are planned to be opened in Croatia – one in Split and the other in Rijeka.

– Each of these department stores will employ about 400 people. Besides, a large number of jobs will be created indirectly, at our partners, during the process of construction of department stores. In addition to opening department stores in both countries, our aim is also to expand cooperation with domestic suppliers, both existing and new ones. Let us remind that Ikea has been successfully cooperating with Serbia’s Simpo and Croatia’s Tvin for more than 30 years now – Milena Vujicic stresses.
