The Minister of State Administration and Local Self-Government in the Government of the Republic of Serbia, Marija Obradovic, pointed out at the first session of the National Council for Climate Change that this ministry supports various, innovative solutions at the local level and encourages local strategic development in the field of climate change protection.
Obradovic reminded that the Ministry, together with the units of local self-government, cooperated with other ministries and international partners on the realization of projects aimed at the prevention of natural disasters caused by climate change.
Also, as she added, the Ministry, based on the Financial Agreement “Partnership for Local Development” between Serbia and the European Investment Bank, promotes projects that introduce plans for environmental and social management at the local level.
She stated that 33 local self-government units will implement 35 different projects in the coming period, with a total value of 30 million euros, according to a statement published on the Government’s website.
According to her, although we are facing numerous challenges, the Ministry will continue to actively participate and provide support to local self-government units in the fight against climate change in the country.
Obradovic expressed the expectation that the involvement of the civil sector in the work of the Council will contribute to the transparency of the process of planning the fight against climate change at the national level, eKapija reports.
