Serbian economy made a profit in 2022. despite all challenges

The Serbian economy, despite the numerous challenges it faced during 2022, made a profit in the amount of 864.2 billion dinars, which is 26.3 percent higher than last year, the Agency for Economic Registers (APR) announced.

On the other hand, 27,868 companies reported a net loss of 374,812 million dinars, an increase of 33.2 percent. At the end of 2022, a total of 135,490 companies were operating in the Republic of Serbia, of which 112,070 submitted a regular annual financial report.

The tendency of Increasing employment, which was present in previous years, has continued. Businesses increased the number of employees by 5,375 compared to 2021 and employed a total of 1,281,412 workers.

During 2022, the total volume of business activity at the economy level increased. The total revenues of the companies were realized in the amount of 17,772,856 million dinars and are 19.2 percent higher than last year, while the total expenses were reported in the amount of 16,721,985 million dinars, increased by 18.8 percent.

The lowest profit was achieved by companies in the electricity sector

All sectors operated profitably, except for the supply of electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning. The sector of wholesale and retail trade stands out with the largest positive net result, which recorded a profit of 214,917 million dinars, which is 26.4 percent higher than in the previous year. It achieved high profitability with a decrease in the number of employees by 3,161, and employed a total of 234,011 workers.

A significant amount of positive net result was realized in the processing industry sector, where it amounts to RSD 197,205 million and decreased by 5.3 percent. In that sector, the number of employees decreased the most – by 6,897, and 401,791 workers were employed.

Almost 2.5 times higher profit was reported in the mining sector, in the value of 196,775 million dinars, with the number of employees increased (by 745) to a total of 27,274 workers. The growth of the positive net result of 44 percent was recorded in the construction sector, with a profit of 80,765 million dinars, and at the same time an increase in the number of employees was also recorded (by 746), and it operated with 85,789 workers.

The information and communication sector recorded the largest increase in the number of employees – by 10,401 and employed a total of 81,800 workers. As in the previous year, the electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply sector performed negatively, whose loss increased 6.7 times and amounted to 42,645 million dinars. In addition, the number of employees decreased by 2,631, to 39,185 workers.
