Rio Tinto welcomes the Serbian government’s regulation on the implementation of the spatial plan for the special purpose area for the Jadar mineral exploitation and processing project. The Jadar project will need to meet stringent environmental standards in accordance with Serbian and European Union regulations, including advancing the project legally, continuing environmental impact assessment studies, public consultations, and obtaining necessary permits and approvals before project execution.

We believe the Jadar Project has the potential to become a world-class lithium and borate resource. We remain committed to fact-based dialogue with all stakeholders on the project’s benefits. The Jadar project could catalyze the development of a broader value chain for electric vehicle production, creating thousands of new, highly paid, and highly skilled jobs in Serbia for future generations, while upholding the highest environmental protection standards.
