Serbian Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure Zorana Mihajlovic talked in Belgrade on Wednesday with a delegation of the USAID Business Enabling Project about changes to the Law on Planning and Construction which should ensure that building permits are issued more quickly in Serbia.

Mihajlovic said that cooperation with the USAID on the implementation of regulations in the field of planning and construction will certainly continue even after the parliament passes the amendments, which will be pending for adoption in July.

Joseph Lowther, chief of party of the USAID Business Enabling Project, commended progress in drafting this important reform law and offered the USAID’s assistance in the period after the adoption of the law, the ministry noted in a release.

Lowther underlined the importance of efficient implementation of the law, noting that the USAID has enough professionals and resources to offer assistance in providing trainings for local self-governments.

The USAID’s support will primarily focus on preparations of by-laws, establishment of an office for prompt response, but also preparations of procedures for electronic issuance of permits, on which the ministry will work in the coming period, it was said during the meeting reports Tanjug.
