A1 Serbia is the fastest mobile network in Serbia in 2021, according to data from Ookla, a global leader in monitoring the performance of mobile and broadband networks, testing applications and related technologies and the creator of the Speedtest application.
The result was obtained on the basis of more than one hundred thousand tests performed by users of all mobile operators in Serbia from April to the end of September 2021, and the A1 network showed the best results with a speed score of 56.55 on devices with a modern chipset.
The achieved result and great recognition comes as a consequence of many years of focus on overall quality improvement. To succeed in this, the company has built a network of nearly 2,300 base stations covering 98% of the population, and has invested more than 120 million euros in that development in the last five years, of which 2021 is a record year in terms of investment.
In April this year, after 14 years of doing business in Serbia, our company changed its name to A1 Serbia, and then we promised customers that they could expect more from us. With the support of A1 Telekom Austria Group, we implemented significant improvements in the network infrastructure, expanded the capacity of the 4G network and further improved the data services. As many as 100 new base stations were built in the first 9 months of 2021, and in the same period the total radio capacities increased by more than 35%. The Ookla recognition is the best confirmation of the quality of the work we have performed and are still working on, especially because the result is based on testing individual users – said Nenad Zeljkovic, Chief Technical Officer of A1 Serbia and A1 Slovenia.
Additional infrastructural expansions cover the entire country, especially the area of Belgrade and Vojvodina. As much as 70 percent of the A1 network has been significantly improved, thanks to which a large number of users will have an improved user experience. For example, the capacity of the mobile network on the territory of Sombor has increased by more than 100 percent, Novi Sad by 81 percent, and Krusevac and Kraljevo by more than 50 percent compared to the previous year.
“Speedtest awards, given by Ookla, are reserved for operators with exceptional network performance and market coverage. It is with great pleasure that we present the award for the fastest mobile network in Serbia to A1. This recognition is a confirmation of the exceptional performance of the A1 network in the second and third quarters, based on rigorous analysis of the results initiated by users through the Speedtest application,” said Doug Suttles, CEO of Ookla.
According to the official report of the Regulatory Agency for Electronic Communications (RATEL), A1 is the network to which the most users have transferred the number since the beginning of 2021. For the second quarter in a row, A1 Serbia is the only one of the three leading mobile operators with an increase in the number of users and the highest flow of internet traffic, which further emphasizes the importance of the award, Mondo reports.
