Serbian Prime Minister Mirko Cvetkovic talked today with Secretary-General of the World Meteorological Organisation (WMO) Michel Jarrud about Serbia’s further activities whose aim is the realisation of regional WMO projects to prevent and mitigate the consequences of natural disasters.

The meeting underlined the importance of the fact that Belgrade will host a two-day regional ministerial conference on climate change, environmental protection, adaptation and risk reduction, at which a long-term programme of development and research activities of the South-East European Sub-regional Climate Change Centre will be adopted.

With the WMO’s support, the centre will strive to boost the capacity of national hydro meteorological authorities in the region, draft seasonal forecasts and work on early warnings against natural disasters.
