Chinese companies are implementing almost all large projects in Serbia, from road infrastructure to thermal power plants in the energy sector, and they are also interested in the construction of hydroelectric power plants, since several new ones are planned.
Serbian Minister of Mining and Energy Zorana Mihajlovic said that there was excellent cooperation between the two countries and that Chinese companies, especially the Power Construction Corporation of China (PCCC), were interested in building hydroelectric power plants.
An agreement on the construction of the Obrenovac-Belgrade heating pipeline was signed with the Power China company, a loan from the Chinese Export-Imort Bank was secured and construction is expected to begin.
“In the field of energy, we are working with the Chinese company CMEC on the new block of the Kostolac B3 thermal power plant. The fact is that this project is partly late, but we hope that this block will be completed in 2021. This has been prepared in all previous years, especially when we talk about the emission of harmful gases,” pointed out Zorana Mihajlovic.
A large Chinese investment in Serbia is the investment of the company Zidjin (Zidjin) in the purchase of the Mining and Smelting Basin Bor (RTB), which includes mines and smelters.
“The state of Serbia insisted, and the Chinese side accepted not only the volume of investments that will take place in the new ore fields, but also the construction of a new smelter that must be in accordance with all world environmental standards,” says Mihajlovic.
Zidjin bought RTB Bor in 2018 for 350 million dollars, and the total binding business plan is 1.2 billion dollars.
Two years earlier, the Chinese company Hestil (today HBIS) bought the ironworks in Smederevo for 46 million euros, and the planned investments are 300 million euros, Beta reports.
