In the first quarter of this year, the value of performed construction works increased by 24.4 percent compared to the same period last year, which contributed to the construction sector being the main driver of GDP growth, the Ministry of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure announced today.
The growth of the gross domestic product in the first quarter was five percent in relation to the same quarter of the previous year, and the construction industry achieved the highest year-on-year growth of the gross value added of all activities with 19.6 percent.
Such results were mostly contributed by the construction of traffic infrastructure, ie large infrastructure projects, such as the construction of the Belgrade-Budapest high-speed railway and the construction of a bypass around Belgrade, and others on which works took place during the state of emergency, Dnevnik reports.
