Construction of biomass-fueled thermal power planned, footwear factory and Capitol Park announced in Sombor Serbia
, NewsThe construction of a biomass-fueled thermal power plant, a footwear factory and Capitol Park are the investments announced in the past year in Sombor.
In early 2015, the construction of a biomass-fueled thermal power plant was announced as a joint project of agriculturists of Sombor and Slovakian investors. The beginning of the construction was announced for the first half of 2015, but the works haven’t yet started.
One of the co-investors, Vladimir Boskovic, says that the beginning of the construction is late due to regulations regarding energy and the lease of the state-owned land by the investors. He says that the procedure of getting a building permit is in progress and that the construction can begin afterwards.
– If everything goes according to plan, the power plant should start operating next autumn. The basic raw material is corn silage, and the product is electrical energy. Thermal energy and organic fertilizer are the byproducts. Organic fertilizer is being brought back to farms which the silage originates from, which completes an ecological cycle – Boskovic says.
The beginning of the construction works on Capitol Park of the British investor Poseidon Group was announced for the first half of 2016, and the completion for early 2017. The only thing done so far, however, is the demolition of the factory on the location.
The construction of a footwear factory of the Italian company Progetti has also been announced for 2016. The City of Sombor has provided a parcel in the industrial zone for the purpose.
Ljiljana Jovanovic, Progetti’s consultant, says that all the equipment for the new Sombor factory has been purchased, that the construction will start in autumn, and that, if everything goes according to plan, it will be completed next spring. She emphasizes the good cooperation between the company and the local self-government of Sombor.
The realization of these investments would lead to the creation of several hundred new jobs. This is a considerable number for Sombor, as the last big investment in the coty was the opening of a factory of the Italian company Calzedonia back in 2010.
