The Serbian government met on Thursday in Belgrade and passed a draft on amendments to the Law on Privatization.
The draft proposes that the existing deadline for privatization should not refer to the companies of strategic importance for the Republic of Serbia and business entities in Kosovo and Metohija.
These companies employ around 25,000 people, said a statement issued by the government’s press office.
The goal of the proposed legislation is “to successfully solve the problem of companies meeting the privatization criteria and to facilitate the privatization process.”
The proposed amendments are aimed at determining the true state of affairs concerning assets, liabilities and capital, as well as the real market capitalization of these companies, said the statement.
