ICT Hub and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) officially presented the “Serbia Innovates” project. The first phase of the project includes a comprehensive research in order to identify areas for innovation that this project will deal with, and today, after the first cut, eight domains that have the greatest chance of success in Serbia were presented, it was announced.

“Despite the fact that everyone knows that some of the world’s greatest inventors in the past two centuries were Serbs, now is the time for Serbian innovators of this century to become famous. In the past five years, I have seen many local success stories in the digital sphere, companies like Nordeus, to Seven Bridges Genomics, as well as CarGo and Strawberry Energy. The success of these companies confirms that there is definitely potential. However, more is needed, Serbia needs more. Serbia especially needs more joint engagement of innovative startups and traditional economy,” it is said.

“Through the first phase of the research, we mapped eight domains with the most potential: artificial intelligence, blockchain technology, high-tech agricultural production, the video game industry, smart environment solutions., eco-smart energy sources, advanced materials and advanced production processes and biotechnology. The research will last until the fall, when we will decide which four domains we want to test in the real environment through four individual supercluster pilot projects. Then we will invite the general public to get involved, so we invite you to follow us. Testing will show us which is the domain that has the greatest chances to make an economic step forward in our economy and thus become the first Serbian supercluster,” said Aleksandra Popovic, project manager of Serbia Innovates.

The activities of the “Serbia Innovates” project will last for four and a half years. Within the project, work will be done on creating an environment conducive to innovation, which will accelerate the development, introduction and scaling of new economic models. The basic idea of the project is to create new opportunities to strengthen the Serbian economy through a model that emphasizes the development of sustainable innovation and encourages industry leaders, traditional companies, small and medium enterprises, startups and academic and research institutions to work on innovation and collaborate on large projects, in order to accelerate growth in some of the most promising industries in Serbia, B92 reports.
