Granting EU candidate status to Serbia at the EU Summit on December 9 would surely send a positive signal to a number of potential investors from Germany and other world countries, Vuckovic told Tanjug.

This would also serve as a stimulus for more efficient and faster enhancement of the business environment in the country in the time to come, and it would also have more extensive effects than the short-term benefits for the local businessmen, Vukovic said.

Deputy President of the German Business Association in Belgrade Bojan Predojevic said that German companies support the stand that Serbia should be granted EU candidate status on December 9.

Granting Serbia EU candidate status would contribute to opening of the Serbian market toward the EU, Predojevic said and added that the very act of obtaining candidate status opens new possibilities for Serbia in terms of direct foreign investments.

He noted that there is a growing trend among German companies as regards opening branch offices in Serbia, adding that the 360 German companies in the country currently employ over 20.000 people.

Predojevic said that Serbia has to boost the attractiveness of its market for foreign investors and that the German Business Association in Belgrade is contributing to this end.
