Great potential for boosting economic cooperation between Serbia, Kuwait

Minister of Economy and Regional Development Nebojsa Ciric voiced hope that today’s Serbian-Kuwait Business Forum will contribute to attracting new investments from Kuwait to Serbia.

Ciric said after the forum which gathered representatives of 21 Serbian companies and almost 30 businessmen from Kuwait that Serbia has offered to become a production centre for Kuwait companies and that they export their products through Serbia to the EU and the countries of the region.

The Minister said that the arrival of the Kuwait delegation to Serbia opens the door to Serbian companies to compete for big projects in this Arab country and increase the rather modest exports.

Ciric said that the areas that are most perspective for cooperation of Serbia and Kuwait are agriculture, tourism, construction and financial services.

He said that President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Kuwait Ali Mohammed Ali Tinajan Al-Ganim invited Serbian companies to compete for jobs under an ambitious plan for future development adopted by the government of this country, whose total value exceeds €1 billion.

This programme is based on big projects and entails building towns and ports, islands, oil fields, communications and traffic and new power plants, Ciric explained.

Kuwait already expressed desire to participate in projects in Serbia like by participating in the financing of the railway station Prokop in the amount of €25 million.

The Serbian-Kuwait Business Forum was opened by Serbian President Boris Tadic and the President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Kuwait.

With the participation in the forum, the Serbian government delegation wrapped up a two-day visit to Kuwait, during which they signed interstate agreements in the field of defence, trade, air transport and the abolition of visas for holders of official and diplomatic passports.
