The President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, estimated that in the next year, which will be marked by a pandemic and energy crisis, all countries will continue to fight for themselves and fear that such a scenario will be long-term, but that Serbia is ready to face challenges.
“Next year, Serbia will enter with sound finances and will be ready to tackle everything that the future brings us,” Vucic said in a video address at the opening of the conference “The Economist: World in 2022” at the National Assembly House.
He pointed out that global trends affecting the whole world will reflect on personal lives, and that is why it is necessary to strengthen our own resources to mitigate the consequences of the crisis.
As he said, Serbia is committed to solving all challenges, from the current ones to those that humanity is yet to face, whether it is a new pandemic or a shortage of energy, food and drinking water.
“There are many challenges that are growing day by day. Energy is a new battlefield for both the great powers and regional countries. Energy is becoming a powerful weapon,” Vucic pointed out, adding that the big question is how energy-dependent countries will be able to cope with the energy crisis.
In the coming years, as he said, a lot of money will be spent on financing the energy transition, which is important in the fight against climate change, but it will be done in such a way as to preserve public finances.
“If we want clean energy, we will have to make some decisions ourselves, as well as in the pandemic,” said Vučić and reminded that in Serbia about 68 percent of electricity is obtained from coal, and the rest from renewable sources and that their share should be increased in next period.
According to him, Serbia has a solution for global food prices and interruptions in supply chain, N1 reports.
