The company has plans to launch the new plastics interior car parts facility on a site in the outskirts of the town of Zrenjanin within the next year. Initially, its production is aimed at the Fiat assembly plant in Kragujevac, Serbia but could later serve other automotive groups in the region.

Mécaplast, which already has plants in China, India, Mexico and Brazil, as well as an engine components joint venture in Poland, is expected to employ a workforce of 120 when the Serbian plant gets underway.

Plans to expand its Serbian plant in the next few years are reported still to be under consideration.

The Monégasque injection moulder produces a range of innovative automotive body and engine parts, sub-assemblies and integrated modules for the vehicle. Formed in 1955, the company has expanded to employ 7,000 at 30 plants around the world.
