The majority of the members of the American Chamber of Commerce in Serbia (AmCham) in 2023 record the growth of business, especially income and profit, while they are somewhat more cautious regarding the growth of investments and new employment of companies, according to the traditional annual AmCham survey on the business climate and investor confidence, under called “The Eleventh Passing Time”.
According to the mentioned survey, AmCham member companies are moderately satisfied with the business climate in Serbia, giving it a rating of 2.9 (scale of 1-5), which represents an increase compared to previous years, but also the best average rating of the business climate since the survey was conducted.
The growth trend of moderately satisfied members is gradual, but stable (from 46 percent in 2016 to 78 percent this year), while the decline of dissatisfied members is also noticeable (from 53 percent in 2016 to only 14 percent this year). Small and micro companies that are not AmCham members, and are part of the research sample, share the views of larger companies, rating the business climate with a score of 3.
“The business forecast of AmCham members in the coming year is more optimistic compared to the previous crisis years, marked by the corona virus epidemic and the war in Ukraine. This growth in optimism is a clear indicator of the partial recovery of the economy and the strengthening of investor confidence after the shocks of the crisis, however, it is very important that, on a long-term plan, together with the Government of Serbia, we work on improving institutional reforms, first of all in the judiciary, healthcare, labor and legal regulations, then on suppressing the gray economy and the green agenda,” pointed out Stefan Lazarevic, president of AmCham.
