“This highway is visible evidence Serbia can change and do better, that it is no longer standing still and is not a country without roads or without dreams.”

Serbian Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic said this on Monday at the opening of a highways section from Ljig to Preljina, central Serbia.

“We are connecting Serbia kilometer by kilometer, we are uniting Serbia,” said Vucic, addressing around 10,000 people who had gathered at the Takovo intersection.

“We will give all places in Serbia a reason for hope,” Vucic said.

The 40.4 km highway from Ljig to Preljina has been built across harsh terrain, including 66 bridges and the four most beautiful tunnels in Serbia, riverbeds and 7.5 km of noise protection barriers, Vucic said at the ceremony.

“This feels like we are in Austria, Italy or Germany,” Vucic noted.
