Record daily excavations in the Copper Mine in Serbia

New machines are responsible for the record daily excavations, which no one remembers in the Majdanpek Copper Mine.
These are three additional trucks with a carrying capacity of 240 tons and a new excavator, but also good organization and flawless operation of the tailings transport system, according to the company Srbija Zidjin Copper.
According to the statement, the goal is for the miners from Majdanpek to make 3.6 million tons of excavations in the shortest month of the year, ie to give at least 130,000 tons of ore and tailings per day on average. They estimate that the daily output of “heavy” more than 140,000 tons, which was achieved on February 7, makes the mining plan realistic and achievable.
“On the first weekend in February, Majdanpek miners in Serbia Zidjin Copper recorded daily production that no one in the mine remembers. Impact 132 thousand tons, which is on average enough to achieve a monthly plan of excavations ‘heavy’ 3.6 million tons, the next day, on Sunday, it exceeded the new record of – 140,870 tons per day,” they point out in the announcement of the company.
“The excellent daily performance of the miners did not fall from the sky. They came as a result of ‘strengthening’ the machinery with three new trucks with a capacity of 240 tons and a large excavator, but also a wise decision to set aside time on Mondays and Fridays to maintain the tailings transport system. The so-called Phase I functioned excellently last weekend, and we had better production conditions thanks to the good layout of the excavator. A new excavator was hired at the ‘Choka Muskal’ site, two loading machines were working in the east “Southern district”, and three deposits in the west,” says the deputy head of the Majdanpek mine in charge of production, Goran Repedjic.
The miners of the Majdanpek mine, in parallel with the production tasks, are trying to enable other conditions for fulfilling this month’s plan – they are accelerating the drainage of the mine, expanding the floors with excavators and preparing for work at lower elevations, but they are not neglecting the condition of mining roads.
“They are preparing, as they say, for the landing in February, because, if they manage to accomplish the planned tasks, 3.6 million tons of excavations in 28 days will be really equal to a feat,” the statement added.
Four white ‘divas’, with a carrying capacity of as much as 240 tons, were bought for the surface mine ‘Veliki Krivelj’ near Bor, and three identical but also large excavators were awarded to the Majdanpek Copper Mine. “Serbia spent the most money on mechanization in November last year, when new powerful machines arrived. In 2020, Serbia’s Zidjin Copper invested 151.1 million US dollars in the purchase of new mining and metallurgical equipment,” Zidjin said.
They add that the total amount that was spent last year for the purchase of mining and metallurgical machines is not only the purchase of machinery, but also includes various other equipment, parts and assembly works, B92 reports.
