Serbia’s Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic said after the first joint session of the governments of Serbia and Hungary in Belgrade that the relations between the two countries are on the rise, and stated that Serbia will be a good and reliable partner to Hungary.

Speaking at a joint press conference at the Palace of Serbia after the meeting with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, Vucic expressed his belief that instead of formally good relations, the relations of trust, sincerity, respect and understanding are being established now.

He stated that he and Orban spoke about concrete forms of cooperation between the governments of the two countries, in the issues ranging from the support of Hungary to Serbia on its European path, to construction of the railway and road infrastructure.

The construction of the Belgrade-Budapest and Subotica-Szeged-Baja railways was also discussed, as well as the opening of a number of border crossings.

I asked for advice regarding our common economic and political problems, but also regarding the topics that we will have to examine and resolve in the future, including the issue of the Southern Stream, Vucic stated.

The Prime Minister of Serbia announced talks about the issues in the field of education and culture, and added that Orban proposed giving scholarships for the studies of 50 students from Serbia in Hungary and for the schooling of a number of Hungarian citizens in our country.

The possibilities for bilateral cooperation are huge. We agreed to jointly participate in certain projects in order to secure a joint access to EU funds and in order to use this difficult moment to reconstruct our infrastructure, Vucic concluded.
