Mrkonjic explained that the memorandum entails joint ventures in the modernisation of existing and construction of new hydropower facilities, and pointed out that the participation of Serbian companies is a prerequisite.

He stated that one of the priority projects which could be realised together with Austria is the construction of pumped-storage hydroelectric power plant “Bistrica”.

Austria is willing to finance the construction of this hydroelectric power plant whose power would be approximately 600 megawatts and whose estimated value is more than €600 million.

Mrkonjic pointed out that a tender has been called for many hydropower projects in Serbia and that there are many companies that are interested around the world, including Austrian companies.
