Serbia has started the construction of a 27 million euro ($31.6 million) COVID-19 hospital in Belgrade and plans to complete it by December 1, president Aleksandar Vucic said.
The hospital will have 200 beds for intensive care and 800 beds for semi-intensive care and will be used for other purposes after the end of the coronavirus epidemic, as it will feature a child delivery and cardiovascular angiography rooms, Vucic said in a statement on Saturday.
Last month, Serbia started building a COVID-19 hospital with 500 beds in the central city of Krusevac.
The hospitals in Belgrade and Krusevac will be built in three months, Vucic said back then, adding the second wave of COVID-19 infections in Serbia is expected to peak around November 1.
A total of 4,196 COVID-19 patients were hospitalised in Serbia as of August 2, with 146 of them being on mechanical breathing, according to health ministry data, SeeNews reports.
