The city of Čačak is solidifying its status as one of Serbia’s major economic hubs with the arrival of significant foreign investment. On Tuesday, the groundwork will be laid for the construction of a sizable German factory specializing in the metal industry. This factory will primarily focus on producing automotive parts for leading brands in Germany and the Czech Republic and will be situated in the industrial zone in Preljina.

Initially, the factory is expected to employ approximately 300 workers, with plans to expand to an additional 500 positions in subsequent phases. Mayor Milun Todorović expressed his enthusiasm, highlighting the positive impact this investment will have on the city. The contractual agreement stipulates that up to 800 workers will eventually be employed, occupying 60,000 square meters of production space across an 11-hectare area.

Todorović emphasized that a significant portion of the workforce, approximately 80%, will be highly educated. The decision to establish the factory in Čačak was influenced by the city’s favorable economic conditions, including its partnership with renowned global brands and its skilled workforce from institutions like the Faculty of Technical Sciences and local technical and mechanical schools.

With its strategic location, Čačak has become a vital transportation hub, with plans for expansion into air traffic once the cargo terminal at the “Morava” airport is completed. Currently, the city boasts around 40,000 employees, with only 3,000 individuals unemployed. Todorović expressed concerns about potential labor shortages in the future, noting that the city already attracts workers from neighboring countries.

Unofficial reports suggest that Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić will attend the foundation stone-laying ceremony in Preljina, underscoring the significance of this investment for the region.
