In August 2024, Serbia reached a historic milestone by hosting half a million tourists in a single month, marking the first time this has occurred, as reported by Uroš Kandić, State Secretary in the Ministry of Tourism and Youth, to Euronews Serbia.
According to Kandić, this achievement is largely due to a surge in foreign visitors. Data from the Central Information System for hospitality and tourism indicated that there were 282,000 international arrivals in August, reflecting a 12 percent increase compared to the same month last year.
“August traditionally sees the highest number of visitors, and this year has shown a significant rise in international arrivals. We’ve observed a 25 percent increase in tourists compared to pre-pandemic summer months,” Kandić explained. He also emphasized that Serbia has been experiencing exceptional tourism results throughout the year. The country has seen a 7 percent overall increase in tourist arrivals and an 18 percent boost in revenue from foreign guests in the first half of 2024, totaling 1.2 billion euros.
