Serbia moves towards energy and mining regulatory reforms: Minister announces amendments and strategic initiatives

Serbia’s Minister of Mining and Energy, Dubravka Đedović Handanović, anticipates imminent public discussions on amendments to the Energy Law aimed at aligning regulations with the new EU energy package and facilitating operations for energy companies. Additionally, amendments to the Law on Mining and Geological Research are slated to bolster protection of the state’s interests in mineral resource utilization, as reported by Beta.

In a meeting today with the Foreign Investors Council (FIC), the minister highlighted ongoing collaboration to enhance regulatory frameworks in the energy and mining sectors. The finalization of the “Integrated National Plan for Energy and Climate” is nearing completion, with an upcoming public debate on the new Energy Development Strategy offering investors an opportunity to engage in strategic planning.

Đedović Handanović underscored the success of the initial auctions for market premiums in renewable energy sources and noted ongoing market analyses to optimize the upcoming second round of auctions scheduled for this year.

The report emphasized the necessity for closer state-economy cooperation, particularly with export-oriented firms, to prepare for the implementation of the Mechanism for Cross-Border Adjustment of Carbon Emissions.

Foreign Investors Council representatives expressed appreciation for collaboration on the “White Book,” containing recommendations to streamline business obstacles, affirming their readiness to actively contribute to regulatory improvements.
