Serbia makes serious steps in implementation of European directives in water management-Agriculture Minister

Minister of Agriculture, Trade, Forestry and Water Management Dusan Petrovic and Portugese Minister of Environment, Spatial Planning and Regional Development Dulce Alvaro Passaro expressed satisfaction over the signing of the Memorandum of understanding between the two countries, which includes cooperation in the areas of planning, improvement of environment and waste and wastewater management.

According to a statement from the Ministry of Agriculture, Trade, Forestry and Water Management, Petrovic said that the Serbia adopted a Law on waters in May 2010, making a serious step to harmonise its national legislation with EU legislation and to implement European directives in the field of water management.

The Minister pointed out that the preparation of a plan of water management in the Danube basin is underway with a programme of measures whose implementation will enable the improvement of the quality of surface and ground waters in Serbia.

Pasar informed Petrovic on the models for successful development of water resources that are applied in Portugal with the help of EU funds.

The Ministers agreed that it is very good that Portugal is the partner country at the agricultural fair in Novi Sad, the statement added.
