Serbia opens Uzice City Development Centre

Deputy Serbian Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior Ivica Dacic and Mayor of Uzice Jovan Markovic opened yesterday the Uzice City Development Centre in which RSD 40 million has been invested.

Dacic pointed out that this building is important for the police as an aspect of partnership between police, local authorities and civil society.

The Ministry of the Interior is interested in several projects in Uzice, including mine clearance at Ponikve airport, which was also discussed with Minister for Emergency Situations of the Russian Federation Sergey Shoigu, he said.

Another project in which the Ministry is interested are the barracks at Krcagovo where, in agreement with the Serbian Army and the city, police solved the problem of the Border Police Administration, he said.

Mayor of Uzice Jovan Markovic said that the building of the city development centre will house local institutions, organisations and associations that will carry out strategically important projects and announced that the city will apply for EU grants for those projects.

Uzice invested 70% in the construction of this facility, the Ministry provided RSD 7 million, while donations yielded RSD 5 million.

Dacic unveiled the memorial plaque to police officer Zeljko Simic who was killed on a mission in 1995 and opened the exhibition “Science and technology in criminology” at Uzice National Museum.
