Austria has played a crucial role in fostering economic ties with Serbia, with Minister of Trade Tomislav Momirović highlighting several key points following the inauguration of the new “Schiebel Antriebstechnik GmbH” factory in Jagodina.
Momirović noted that over 800 companies founded by legal and natural persons from Austria are currently active in Serbia. In the past fourteen years, Austria has invested approximately 3.2 billion euros in Serbia, leading to the creation of over 22,000 jobs.
The Minister emphasized the significance of Austria as a vital economic partner for Serbia, ranking among the top fifteen partners in goods trade, top ten in services trade, and standing as the third-largest contributor to total foreign investments.
The occasion of the new factory opening is seen as a testament to Austria’s continued positive impact on Serbia’s economic landscape. Momirović underlined that the presence of Austrian companies in Serbia not only brings economic benefits, such as income and job opportunities, but also contributes to the transfer of new technologies, knowledge, innovations, and good business practices.
Furthermore, Minister Momirović credited the success of Serbia’s economic policies in making the country the absolute leader in attracting foreign direct investments in this part of Europe. In 2023 alone, Serbia attracted over 4.5 billion euros in foreign direct investments, representing a two percent increase compared to the previous year.
The Minister reiterated the government’s commitment to supporting the private sector, with a primary focus on fostering the establishment of new factories and generating additional job opportunities. Overall, the statements highlight the positive and mutually beneficial economic relationship between Austria and Serbia, characterized by substantial investments, job creation, and the transfer of valuable knowledge and technologies.
