This year, three times more money was set aside for viticulture than last year, says the Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management, Branislav Nedimovic, and states that Serbian wine is a developing brand.
The Minister said that we have a lot of work ahead of us in order to get the deserved recognition of Serbian wine in the world.
Nedimovic says that this is exactly why the Strategy for the Development of Viticulture and Enology was drafted, which he states will be our foundation and guide in the future.
Confirmation of our determination is the fact that only this year we have set aside three times more money than last year for the development of that sector, said Nedimovic at the conference “Taste the difference, taste the buyer”.
All this, the Minister notes, is important not only for wine producers, but also for the entire food industry, rural tourism and many other branches.
The conference was organized with the support of USAID’s Competitive Economy Project, as part of the Prokuplje Day event.
According to USAID, the conference brought together regional, domestic and world wine experts, representatives of the wine industry and all wine lovers to promote wines from the most important indigenous variety in Serbia.
The goal of the event is to exchange knowledge and experiences about viticultural, technological, but also market potentials of Prokuplje and other local grape varieties, as well as to promote the development of the wine industry in Serbia and increase its international recognition.
The director of USAID’s Office for Democratic and Economic Development, Shanley Pinchotti, said that Serbia has wonderful wines and that it is time for the world to find out.
She mentioned that, in addition to promotion, we should work on improving and increasing production, education and greater involvement of young people in the industry.
In these difficult times, it is important to support domestic producers to persevere and not give up on their business plans, says Pinchotti.
The organizer and founder of the event, Igor Lukovic, stated that Prokuplje, as a wine variety, has returned to the domestic wine scene, which is important for building the identity of wine Serbia.
He says that until 5 years ago, there were 10 wineries that produced Prokuplje, and today there are 50, Dnevnik reports.
