“I was happy when a broader regional study, comprising a great number of countries of East and Southeast Europe, was presented to us, since it proved that the growth rate of broadband in Serbia is the highest in the region. This shows that the industry is in good condition,” Matic said at a conference dubbed “Balkan Broadband Conference and Exhibition 2012” in Belgrade’s hotel Continental.

According to her, the entire sector is at the forefront of development and of getting closer to the EU, unlike many other sectors.

“All this produces great results for Serbia. We will most probably have a broadband such as those of much more developed countries very soon,” she noted.

Matic said that in the past four years a thorough evaluation has been made which makes it possible for the citizens and economy of Serbia to rely on electronic communication.

Today’s conference is supported by the Serbian Cable Operator Association (PUKOS), and the participants will discuss the broadband network Gigabit as part of the GEANT network, the future of broadband, European financing of broadband communications, 3D TV without glasses, evolution of cable TV service beyond television broadcasting.

Every year, the international Society for Broadband Professionals (SCTE) organizes the Balkan Broadband Conference and Exhibition. Last year’s event was held in Skopje, Macedonia.
