Since the introduction of the state of emergency until Friday, May 15, 8,790 people have applied to the National Employment Service for financial assistance, according to the Ministry of Finance, and they add that the current unemployment in Serbia is around 10%.
If you look at the crisis in the whole world, where tens of millions of people are left without jobs, 8,790 of them in our country is a decent number for a small Serbia that has shown that it is economically capable and strong.
– We have preserved production capacities, factories have not been shut down, we have saved jobs, now we are fighting for our economy, and it is important for us to open the world and Europe, because our economy does not depend only on our internal market – the Ministry said.
When it comes to wholesalers that have seen an increase in turnover over the past two months, and which have decided not to accept state aid in the form of minimum wage payments and thus deprived their employees of additional rewards, the Ministry says that the state can not even how to make an obligation to some private individuals, because they are independent.
As they state, it is known about many examples where employers rewarded their workers, and that the measure of the state was aimed precisely at not dismissing workers.
– There were many who thought that there would be layoffs due to the crisis, we exempted them from paying taxes, we gave a minimum wage, there was no need for people to be fired. We expected that a large number of them, in addition to the minimum salary that the state gives, will give something beyond that, and I think that those who could have given it – they state in the Ministry.
In Serbia, the unemployment rate was 26 percent five or six years ago, and now that rate is around 10 percent.
– Now the crisis is over and everyone wants to earn even better income with their employees – they emphasize in the Ministry of Finance of Serbia, Srbija Danas reports.
