The company Here Technologies, which deals with digital mapping services and location services, announced that this spring it will map parts of Serbia with high-precision three-dimensional (3D) technology as part of its efforts to offer the most advanced maps of the world.
According to a statement from the Amsterdam-based company, Here plans to drive through the streets of Serbia from April to June 2021, using a car equipped with technology to record highly accurate road data, including vertical and horizontal traffic signals.
The clearly marked Here car will take panoramic shots of streets and points of interest such as shops, petrol stations and restaurants in 3D technology.
The information will be used to create rich and detailed maps of Serbia designed to support autonomous vehicles and other advanced services that improve road safety, reduce traffic congestion and allow people to move more easily through urban areas.
In the coming months, the vehicle will travel on the main roads across the country and on the streets of certain cities, and the entire filming process will take place without stopping and affecting the normal flow of traffic, the statement said.
Here is committed to respecting and protecting privacy. The collected panoramic images of the streets are first stored in the vehicle, and later transmitted in encrypted form and stored in a secure facility.
The images are further processed using advanced face detection and blurring algorithms and license plates. Panoramic images are published only when faces and license plate numbers are blurred.
In extremely rare cases when the recording is not properly blurred, Here makes it easier for anyone to report this. Simply, when you open the image, click on the link “Report image” in the lower left corner of the map, it is explained in the company’s announcement, Bonitet reports.
