Today, the Minister of Mining and Energy, Zorana Mihajlovic, visited the works on the construction of a new biomass heating plant in Priboj, the first in Serbia to work on biomass, it was announced today from her office.
This is important not only because of the energy efficiency and quality of energy that the citizens of Priboj will use, it is also important because of the protection of the environment, because it reduces emissions of harmful gases by at least 70 percent. If there is something that is important for Priboj and for the whole of Serbia, it is to take care that we have sustainable energy and to take care of environmental protection, said Mihajlovic.
She thanked the German development bank KfW, with which joint projects worth hundreds of millions of euros have been realized, as well as Switzerland and its development agency, which also participated in financing the project in Priboj.
Mihajlovic specified that about 10 percent of heating plants in Serbia use fuel oil, about 10 percent coal, and about 80 percent gas.
In the coming period, we will visit other cities that use worse energy sources to try to talk to them to switch to other energy sources. That is important if we want to have a green Serbia that will use good and quality fuels, and the citizens thus good and quality sources of thermal energy, she announced.
KfW Director in Serbia Ridiger Hartmann said that the project is progressing well and that when completed, it will contribute to climate-neutral development and a better life for citizens.
The value of the investment is around seven million euros, and after the completion of the works planned for October, the new heating plant will replace the old one with fuel oil and will provide heating for almost 1,500 households, for more than 4,000 inhabitants in Priboj, Nova reports.
