The production of ice cream in Serbia has been growing in recent years, and according to the data of the Serbian Chamber of Commerce, a particularly large growth has been recorded since 2019, when 51 percent more ice cream was produced than a year earlier.
In 2019, 33,875 tons were produced, and in 2018, 22,313 tons.
Last year, production was close to the record year of 2019 and amounted to 33,818 tons.
In previous years, according to the data of the Association for Plant Production and Food Industry PKS, only a little more than 20,000 tons were produced in Serbia.
In 2016, the production was 20,202 tons, in 2017 21,415 and a year later 22,313 tons.
With the increase in production, the export of this favorite summer treat is also growing, so last year 22,230 tons were exported, which is three times more than in 2016.
The largest quantities of ice cream are exported by Serbian producers to the countries of our region, and the most to Bulgaria, Greece, Montenegro, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Croatia.
Ice cream is also exported to Great Britain, Germany and Spain.
In addition to the large ice cream factories Frikom, Froneri Adriatic and Swisslion – Takovo, which produce the largest quantities and employ about 2,000 workers, ice cream in our country is made by about a hundred small craft producers, Politika reports.
