In the coming period, the Swiss government and the Local Finance Reform Project in Serbia II will support a total of 48 local governments in improving public finances.
The Swiss government will support local governments, including Uzice, in establishing or improving financial management and control, internal audit, introducing innovative models in public finances and overseeing local public enterprises.
During 2021 and 2022, the project will provide these municipalities with expert support in the implementation of regulations, the establishment of procedures and mechanisms and the introduction of new tools in these areas. The goal is to improve the way of planning, distribution and control of spending budget funds, as well as supervision over the work of local public companies.
In this way, the stability of public finances of local self-government units is supported and better provision of services to citizens and greater transparency in the work of local governments is ensured.
These changes in the work of local governments are activities within the reform of local public finances and are a legal obligation for all users of public funds. They enable the current focus to be extended from, exclusively monitoring the intended and legal spending of funds, to management based on and focused on achieving goals and results.
In addition to the basic goal, the RELOF2 Project encourages and promotes inter-municipal cooperation, so that local governments with more capacity can support smaller ones.
The project is supported by the Government of Switzerland through the Swiss Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO).
The Mayor of Uzice, Dr. Jelena Rakovic Radivojevic, and her associates received representatives of the RELOF project. At the working meeting on the occasion of the continuation of activities on the implementation of the RELOF2 project, Uzice was praised as an example of good practice in the field of improving local finances and establishing a system of financial management and control, B92 reports.
