EU Enlargement Commissioner Stefan Fuele said in Belgrade that this year is important for the European integration of Serbia, but that Serbia’s pace towards the EU will depend on the Belgrade authorities only. After talks with Deputy Prime Minister Bozidar Djelic, Fuele said that Serbia should carry out reforms that will benefit the citizens and also get Serbia closer to the EU. Fuele said that the discussion included reforms in the field of judiciary, fight against corruption, legislation on financing political parties and the need for concrete cooperation with the Hague Tribunal. Djelic expressed belief that by December, Serbia will have all the arguments to start negotiations on the EU membership.
