In Serbia, between 120,000 and 150,000 tons of confectionery products are produced annually, such as chocolates, biscuits, rusks and cakes, and a third of Serbian sweet and savory “delicacies” are sold outside the borders of our country.
The confectionery industry is a healthy part of the food industry of Serbia, with many years of quality supply to the domestic market, but also a constant presence in foreign markets.
– The capacities of this branch of the food industry are higher than the domestic needs, and about one third of the annual production is exported – the Serbian Chamber of Commerce states. – For now, the largest export market is still the republics of the former SFRY.
The production of confectionery products ranges from 120,000 to 150,000 tons per year. In the first nine months of 2020, the production of salty pastries (crackers, salty sticks, pretzels) increased by 12.5 percent, chocolate products by 18.8 percent, cream products by 22.2 percent, and candies by slightly more than one percent compared to the same period last year. The biscuit and chocolate production sector recorded a decline of 21.4 and 1.4 percent, in the first nine months of 2020, Novosti reports.
