Minister Momirovic pointed out that if we want to be the best in Europe, we must invest in infrastructure.
The Minister of Transport, Construction and Infrastructure, Tomislav Momirovic, stated that in recent years, significant and extensive infrastructure projects have been launched in Serbia, connecting parts of Serbia, as well as Serbia with the surrounding countries and the whole of Europe.
Tomislav Momirovic says that the priorities are the railway corridor Belgrade – Novi Sad, it is part of the corridor Belgrade – Budapest, and the road corridor Preljina – Pozega.
The Minister assessed that these are projects that have a good staff structure and good dynamics of work and explained that commitments have been made to complete them by the end of the year, within the deadlines set and supported by the President of the Republic Aleksandar Vucic, which is a special obligation. In addition, cooperation with Russian and Chinese partners is good, which is also important. He specifies that the value of the projects that are being worked on exceeds hundreds of millions of euros, and the railway corridor Belgrade – Subotica itself more than two million euros.
Momirovic explains that preserving macroeconomic stability and achieved economic development is the basic goal of infrastructure projects.
The intention is, says Momirovic, to achieve economic growth of six percent and to be the best in Europe, and that can be achieved by building infrastructure and extensive public investments.
What projects are being worked on
Minister Momirovic emphasizes that there is a large number of projects that are being done, they are extensive, money has been allocated for those purposes, and the potential of borrowing for infrastructure projects is around 7 billion euros.
According to Momirovic, part of the money will be set aside for communal infrastructure, which will be built according to the highest European standards.
Momirovic also points out that the citizens themselves have the opportunity to be convinced of the benefits of infrastructure projects. He singles out, in that context – Corridor 10 was completed, the Belgrade-Cacak highway was built, in the spring the construction of the section from New Belgrade to Surcin, Preljina – Pozega will begin, and then the continuation to the border with Montenegro, ie to Sarajevo.
In that sense, the Minister states that BiH and Montenegro, where members of our people live, are important partners of Serbia and that these road sections will have a significant economic role, but certainly in terms of connecting members of our people.
Momirovic also emphasizes the importance of the “Mini Schengen” project, which is in absolute agreement with the intentions of Serbia, and is in the function of regional connection, primarily economic. Economic communication will not make much sense, ie it will be difficult if the other side – for example BiH or Montenegro, does not fulfill its part of the job in terms of the realization of the construction of road infrastructure.
About capital investments
When it comes to capital infrastructure investments, Momirovic reminds that Corridor 10 has been completed, as well as the highway from Belgrade to Cacak, the railways from Belgrade to Valjevo, from Nis to Dimitrovgrad have been reconstructed, billions of euros have been invested in road reconstruction. Corridor Belgrade – Budapest, section from Belgrade to Novi Sad, trial works are underway from Novi Sad to Subotica.
Negotiations are seriously being held with European and Chinese partners on the project of a high-speed railway from Belgrade to Nis.
Serious work is being done on the Frushkogorski corridor, bypasses around Novi Sad, preparations for the highway Belgrade – Zrenjanin and Zrenjanin – Novi Sad are in progress. The Minister also specifies that work is being done on the project and planning documentation for the roads Sombor – Kikinda, Iverak – Lajkovac.
Ruma will become a hub
The highway Nis – Pristina will also be of great importance, in the next period serious work will be started on that section which has great economic importance. The road Ruma – Sabac – Loznica, the highway Belgrade – Sarajevo, via Bijeljina will also play a big role.
Ruma will become a road junction, in which the Frushkogorski corridor joins Corridor 10, then the highway Ruma – Sabac, there is also a fast road from Sabac to Loznica, he explains.
The Ministry of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure pays special attention to communal infrastructure.
Momirovic states that in the next 5 years, projects for over 120 wastewater treatment plants and regional landfills will be completed. One large-scale investment project will solve the problems of wastewater and landfills in 80 percent of municipalities in Serbia.
– The projects I am talking about are part of the Serbia 2025 plan, it is a proof of a solid policy backed by President Aleksandar Vucic – Momirovic points out, noting that everything that was promised to the citizens must be realized, Srbija Danas reports.
