The Government of Serbia has adopted a Strategy to Stop Economic Migration. Zoran Djordjevic, Minister of Labor, Employment, Veterans and Social Affairs, tells RTS that the aim of the Strategy is to keep young people living in Serbia, to return those who left the country, but also to attract foreigners to Serbia who would be here to live and work.
Zoran Djordjevic stated that young people leave Serbia for better paid jobs, better working conditions, job security and the opportunity for someone to improve and advance in their jobs.
He adds that the goal of the Strategy is to stop this negative economic migration – to keep young people living in Serbia, to return those who left the country, but also to attract foreigners to Serbia who would live and work here.
As stated, the Economic Migration Strategy for the period 2021-2027 it is not intended to give anyone an argument at this time to stay in Serbia, but, as he says, it contains everything that the state needs to do, the ways in which it needs to act in order to stop this negative economic migration.
“The strategy is a document that envisaged one general and six specific goals that we as a state should achieve. The overall goal is to create an economic and social environment that will slow down economic migration, then enable better cooperation with the diaspora and attract foreigners of different profiles who wish to they work here in Serbia”, Djordjevic explains.
He adds that building and strengthening institutional capacities, improving working conditions, changing and harmonizing the education system, improving cooperation with the Diaspora, creating conditions for monitoring economic migration and creating conditions for more efficient management of internal migration are specific goals.
He said that it would not be easy or quick to implement it, but stated that Serbia must have the courage and faith to do it, RTS writes.
