Serbian businessmen expect new aid measures if the situation worsens

The Serbian Chamber of Commerce (SCC) believes that there is room for the state to help certain sectors of the economy again in the event of stricter measures to prevent the corona, which would jeopardize the work of the economy.
The Chamber of Commerce and Industry thus answered Tanjug’s question whether they are participating in talks with state representatives on a new package of economic assistance to the economy, given that it is announced that measures will be taken to prevent the spread of the corona virus.
However, the SCC emphasizes that they understand the limitations of further systemic budget support, bearing in mind the need to preserve macroeconomic stability as the basis of the country’s business environment, but still expect assistance in the event of a worsening situation.
“For that reason, we believe that there is room to help certain sectors of the economy, depending on the development of the further situation,” they say in PKS.
They point out that most analysts do not agree with the application of the “closing” system, as was the case in the first wave.
PKS also states that international financial institutions remain with the projections that a significant recovery of economic activity is forthcoming next year, especially in Serbia, which will have relatively more favorable economic performance this year compared to comparable European countries.
Due to the possible new deterioration of the epidemiological situation, PKS states that it is in constant contact with the Government of Serbia, regarding the current situation in the economy and the problems that businessmen are facing.
According to them, contacts are made through participation in the work of the Council for Coordination of Economic Policy Measures, as well as through numerous working groups at the level of ministries and local self-government units.
Also, businessmen hope that in the next year, support will be available to the economy through mechanisms of cooperation with the European Commission, DFC and other institutions, especially in the area of support to entrepreneurship, micro, small and medium enterprises.
PKS praised the previous measures of economic support of the government, which have essentially contributed to preserving the liquidity of economic entities and employment.
They point out that thanks to direct budget transfers, postponement of part of the tax, as well as the establishment of a guarantee scheme for favorable lending to businessmen, the Serbian economy withstood the first wave of the crisis caused by the coronavirus epidemic relatively well.
However, the SCC states that there is uncertainty about the development of the economic situation as we approach winter, but also due to the fact that the coronavirus is intensifying again at the European level, Dnevnik reports.
